2-4-Friday (Special Byrnes vs. STA Edition)
I feel like Michael Buffer (1) should introduce these two teams because Byrnes of South Carolina (2) and St. Thomas Aquinas (3) is the undisputed main event of the high school football season.
The powerhouse teams will cap off what might be the best week of football in the state with games up and down the peninsula between ranked programs. It takes this sort of matchup to shine the light off of the Saturday game between Northwestern (4) and Booker T. Washington (5).
But this nationally televised game will deliver the good. Byrnes is loaded and going for its fifth victory over a Florida school in as many tries.
(Trivia question: Who are the other four Florida schools Byrnes defeated? Answer below).
The Rebels are led by third-year head coach Chris Miller (6) and feature Parade All-American candidate Marcus Lattimore (7) at running back with Chas Dodd (8) completing over 65 percent of his passes at quarterback. Lattimore is one of the nation's most coverted recruits while Dodd is headed to Rutgers (9).
It gets better on defense for the Rebels where Corey Miller (10) and Brandon Willis (11). Both players are headed to Tennessee (12).
But let's not count out the top-ranked Raiders, who have won their last 26 games. Head coach George Smith (13) will be coaching in his 402nd game overall and he brings arguably his best-team ever into battle with him.
Running backs Giovanni Bernard (14) and James White (15) are among the best in the state and the will run behind an athletic, well-disciplined offensive line led by Brandon Linder (16) and Jermaine Barton (17).
Defensive is where the Raiders really shine, however, as one of the nation's best secondaries features All-American Lamarcus Joyner (18) and Cody Riggs (19). Linebacker Vinny Mauro (20) is the defensive captain.
It will be all on the table tonight at 8 p.m. live from Lockhart Stadium. ESPNU has the coverage
(Trivia Answer: Glades Central (21), Tallahassee Lincoln (22), Dr. Phillips (23) and Pahokee (24).)
